About

Jason Schmid has a broad and multifaceted array of talents that make him uniquely qualified for the grueling and demanding work of Film and Commercial Directing. For example, Jason has discovered six new species of bugs, explored the North Pole dressed in only a wetsuit and Ugg Boots, and can travel at speeds exceeding 350mph.

At the age of sixteen, after returning from the African Congo where he helped his parents construct modular buildings they had designed to be used as medical research facilities there, he graduated from high school in exotic New Jersey, already with several films (including “Open the Box”) under his belt. In New York City, he founded The Apple in the Blue Theatre Company, directed several award winning student films, and smoked well over twenty five thousand cigarettes all in less than three years. He came to Los Angeles in 1992 and immersed himself in documentary filmmaking, eventually traveling to South Africa in 1994 for a film documenting Nelson Mandela’s historic election.

Since then, Jason has relentlessly studied the art and commerce of filmmaking working alongside some of today’s most gifted directors: Wim Wenders, Jay Roach, Mario VanPeebles, Kevin Bacon, Maya Angelou, David Lynch, and Nicholas Rouge, just to name a few.

Jason combines his knowledge of modern technical filmmaking techniques, his deep appreciation for classic filmmaking styles, and his studies of the acting process to guide his style of writing and directing. When he is not working, Jason can be found in Los Angeles, working.

Also, he no longer smokes cigarettes, in case you were concerned about his health.
